The Sunflower

A sun made out of hundreds of plants and flowers inspired by the tall native plants which are grown in Chicago during the summer. When I first moved across from Winnemac Park in Ravenswood I was inspired by the how tall and beautiful they bloomed during the summer months, despite existing in the middle of a city. They found a way to survive in an urban environment. The work I chose supports and advocates for the expansion of native gardens and plants within Chicago, and just as I think they make beautiful inspiration for paintings, they make life in Chicago richer and more healthy.
