In Egyptian mythology, the heart of the soul would be weighed to see if the soul was worthy. In order to be considered worthy, the soul had to weigh less than the feather of truth. A worthy soul lived a life of gratitude, free of negative energies and covetousness. Anubis, the dog headed god of funeral rites and guide to the underworld, is shown, with the eye of Horus looking on. Horus gave his eye to his father, Osiris, the lord of the underworld, to sustain him in the afterlife. The eye of Horus was associated with funeral rites and is a protective symbol.
